Let's make India really 'Great'

I guess all you people reading this post might find it a little gross but it's a sincere effort on my part to put forward the naked reality.

On Friday, I finished my work at office and got down to the parking lot to get my car. I paid the parking manager and was about to enter my car. To my astonishment, I found one elderly person sitting down and peeing just behind my car. He just coolly finished his ordeal and left as if nothing really happened. When I approached the parking manager, he informed me that this is a daily routine since the space behind the cars serves as a 'private' area for people to pee and nobody listens to him when he asks them not to pee. At that moment, I thought this country has really gone to the dogs.

This space behind the parked cars has become one amongst the many shady nooks and corners in this country that many people use for letting off their liquids and in many cases their solids as well. Talking about corners, any place that has 2 walls meeting each other in a right angle, may it be on footpaths, public places, inside old apartment buildings, et al, is a potential pee-hole in this country.

Indian Online TV Schedule Guides

A few weeks back, on a Sunday morning, I was struggling to find out the timings of the Discovery Channel Show 'Man vs Wild'. I started searching on Google. Put in the keyword phrase 'discovery channel india' and got Discovery Channel UK links. Since I was specifically searching for an Indian website, I didn't even bother to click on the 2nd search result - http://www.discoverychannel.co.uk/tv-schedule/ where one needs to select the continent, country to get the schedule of select programmes. And should I thank God that I didn't click on that link? I will tell you the reason a little later. Read on...

Then I searched for the same keyword phrase by selecting 'pages from India' and voila, National Geographic Channel India link appears as the 2nd search result. Discovery Channel doesn't have an India website?? Hard to believe, but I guess it's the fact. Maybe, folks at Discovery would have their own reasons for centralising all online content at Discovery.co.uk. Wish them all the best.

England regain the Ashes

England defeated Australia in a dramatic final Test at The Oval yesterday to win the series 2-1 and regain the Ashes. Refer the match scoreboard here.

England victory's left Ricky Ponting with the unwanted record of becoming only the second Australia captain, since Billy Murdoch in 1890, to be in charge of two losing Ashes tours of England.

But Ponting's not to be entirely blamed for this loss. The Australian selectors had handcuffed Ponting with four pacemen on a dry pitch at The Oval and were expecting part-time spinners to do the task of a specialist. Ponting did everything he could do to avoid defeat. Apart from making a defiant 66 (before Flintoff brilliantly ran him out) in Australia's cause, he had even shed blood on Saturday when hit in the mouth while fielding at silly point.

Lord Ganesh Festival

I am starting my personal blog on this auspicious day today. Today’s Ganesh Chaturthi, the first day of the Lord Ganesh festival all over India. Lord Ganesh (also popularly known as Ganapati) is our elephant headed God, the son of God Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Indian freedom fighter and social reformer Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak had popularized Ganesh Chaturthi as a national festival. The festival will be celebrated for 11 days.
